22: Choose Joy (with Stacy Myers)
Do you wish your household ran a little more smoothly? That your laundry wasn't a giant mountain or that you knew what you're having for dinner tonight? In this episode Stacy Myers from Humorous Homemaking shares some great tips on running your life and home a little more smoothly. She also tells us her story of overcoming a problem with body image and chronic under-eating. Laugh along with us as she encourages us in true Stacy style to let go of “control-freak-ism,” to never wake up with our “panties in a wad,” but instead to #ChooseJoy.
Stacy is the mastermind behind Humorous Homemaking & author of Crock On: A Semi-Whole Foods Slow Cooker Cookbook and Keep Crockin': A Poorganic Slow Cooker Cookbook. She is a stay-at-home and homeschooling mom to her four children. Home management can become boring, mundane, and stressful if you let it…but Stacy believes that managing a home shouldn't be dull – and that we can do so without losing our ever-loving minds.
Listen for These Nuggets of Wisdom from Stacy …
“Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.” Romans 13:8 (Stacy's family Bible verse/motto). In other words, “Loving one another and living debt free.”
Stacy shares her story of dealing with body image issues and chronic under-eating. Once she had kids she chose to let go of her “control-freakism” (Stacy's new, but oh-so-effective word) and allow people in her life to help hold her accountable so she doesn't fall into that pit again. Stacy says, “If you are prone to any type of disorder or bad place, if you don't have someone to keep you accountable it's easier to fall back into that hole where you were.”
“Living a vibrant, happy life is a choice that you make everyday when you wake up.”
“Joy is something that you have to choose.”

“I enjoy making people laugh. I enjoy teaching women in a humorous manner to be able to take care of their homes.”
Stacy's 3 biggest home management tips:
- “Do laundry every day. A lot of people let laundry pile up. and laundry can quickly morph into this three-headed monster. I find that if I can do at least one load of laundry a day, I can stay on top of it.”
- “Meal planning will save your behind. Make sure that meal planning is a priority for you because it helps you keep your budget in check.”
- “Adapt. Changing things in your routine does not make you a failure. It just means that you need to adapt for your current season.”
“Feeding people is my love language. It just fills up my cup.”
“You should be filling your home and your entire life with things that bring you joy. And the things that aren't bringing you joy, you need to dispose of them and get rid of them.”
