We want our kids to grow up well-adjusted and capable of functioning in society. But we also them to have happy memories of being loved and cherished. In this episode, Kristen Ivy shares 6 things that matter most in a child’s life: love, words, stories, fun, work, and tribes. Are you meeting your kids’ needs in each of these areas?
What You'll Learn in this Episode:
- How to build love, words, stories, fun, work, and tribe-building into your children's lives.
- How to care for your child holistically, treating them as a whole person.
- How to let go of mommy guilt.
- How to make sure your child feels significant and adored.
Nuggets of Wisdom from Kristen:
“It’s helpful to know a few things along the way because every year of a kid’s life looks a little bit different. If you’re a parent, you only get one chance to know your 2nd grader as a 2nd grader, and then they turn into a 3rd grader. You don’t get to know them as a 2nd grader anymore. And so there are unique things right now about each phase, challenges to each phase. Oftentimes parents wonder, ‘Hey is this normal? Is this how it is when they are teens?' Or, ‘Is there something I should be paying special attention to with my kid right now?' There is a great opportunity when you engage with a child or a teenager.”
“A lot of times, especially if you’re a parent of teenagers, sometimes you are creating a moment that they're going to remember for years and years to come. Even though they may not be letting you know in the moment, that that’s what that is. One of the most powerful things we can do is that bit of encouragement and just say, “I still actually like you, I am still in your corner, I see potential in you. I see value in you. I see something great!”
